Tretower Castle and Court is situated in Crickhowel, Powys.
The first fortification was built by a Norman knight from the Picard family, thought to be John Picard.
Six generations of the Picard family were thought to reside at Tretower.
Through marriage Tretower eventually passed to the Herbert family.
The castle was taken by the Welsh in 1233, but returned to English ownership. During the uprising in 1322, the Welsh again seized the castle, but once again it returned to the English in 1403.
During 1404, Sir James Berkely successfully withstood an attack by Owain Glyndwr and soon after Tretower was passed to Sir Roger Vaughan., who was the half brother of Sir William Herbert.
Tretower Court which was built in the 14 th Century was rebuilt by Sir Roger Vaughan in the 15 th Century and it was his son, Sir Thomas Vaughan, who continued to extend the manor in the last quarter of the 15 th century.
The courtyard is thought to have been modified in the early 17 th century by Charles Vaughan.
Tretower was the Vaughan family residence until 1783, when it was sold to the Parry family before being used as a farm.
The majority of sightings are said to be that of a ‘White Lady', believed to be Sir Roger Vaughan‘s wife.

Another woman has been witnessed sitting by the windowsill. This woman is said to be very calm and peaceful.
Visitors and staff have reported feeling very uneasy in this area.
One visitor is said to have returned on numerous occasions as she was worried about this particular ghost.
Staff have reported feeling very uneasy in the gallery and the stairs leading to it, they all feel there is something there, with some staff refusing to enter the room.
This woman is said to pace up and down the battlements as if waiting for someone's return.
